SynTouch, a California-based company at the University of Southern California, has created an artificial fingertip that touches a certain material measure the “feel” of it in 15 dimensions including roughness or temperature of the object. According to CEO and co-founder of Syntouch, Gerald LoebIi, robots can now understand how much pressure they are applying and quantify the strength needed depending on the material.
